Puppy Socialisation & Recall Workshop

(These Workshops run from April to September)

These Workshops are held between March and October.

Socialisation is fundamental to your puppy’s physical, emotional and behavioural development.

Part of their socialisation programme should include positive interactions with other sociable puppies and dogs.  Carefully managed socialisation is important for puppies and helps them develop appropriate social and communication skills. It is also about learning how to focus on their guardians when other dogs are around them so that they not only learn they can’t interact with every dog they see but that their guardians are just as fun to be with! It is also about building confidence around new and novel stimuli.

Recall (teaching your dog to come back to you) is one of the most important skills you can teach.

Obviously, there is the safety aspect associated with recall but it is also essential to teach your puppy to come back to you before being let off lead in a public place to keep them out of trouble, to stop being a nuisance to others and to take control of a situation before it becomes dangerous.  Equally, a dog that can be trusted to be off-lead on a walk (in permitted places) can live a more fulfilling and enriching life.

To ensure that your puppy can experience carefully managed socialisation and practice their all-important recall training in their early months of age, we offer these Puppy Socialisation and Recall Workshops.

We use a secure outside field located approximately 9 miles outside Reigate (in Charlwood) for these workshops, hence why we only run these in fair weather months.

The workshop is run once a month on either a Saturday or Sunday and lasts one hour.  Spaces are limited to six puppies. Ideally, each puppy should be accompanied by 2 handlers.

The puppies will spend some of the workshop undertaking recall activities and some of the workshop focusing on socialisation activities. There are regular breaks to keep the session suitable for young puppies (with consideration given to delicate and developing joints, bones and muscles).

The puppies are carefully supervised whilst they are interacting in small groups.  There will be opportunities to learn about canine body language during play sessions (should we have a suitable mix of puppies in attendance to allow for puppy play) and owners will get to practice recall whilst puppies learn the rules about play and interaction with others.  There will also be opportunities to help your puppy build confidence with new and novel stimulus that we will introduce them to as well.  Amanda and Bella will ensure that all puppies have a positive experience so that they feel comfortable about meeting other dogs in the future.

This workshop is open to fully vaccinated puppies under 5 months of age on the date of the workshop. This is not suitable for puppies who are reactive to other dogs or people (please contact me for private training if you have a reactive puppy).
